The European Commission has made a decision on the request from CEN to postpone the date of cessation of presumption of conformity of EN 954-1. The transition period of EN 954-1 has been extended after a majority vote in the last EC Machinery Working Group meeting. There has been no decision yet on the duration of the extension. It will be stated when the next official journal will be published.
The parallel use of standards will now continue until the end of the extended transition period. Machine designers and constructors may continue to use EN 954-1, EN ISO 13849-1 or EN/IEC 62061 to gain a presumption of conformity under the new Machinery Directive.
As the newer standards better reflect state of the art in Machine Safety System Design and as machine users are likely to specify in many cases in one of the two newer standards, Pilz recommends that machine builders adopt these standards sooner rather than wait until the end of the transition period.
Pilz as the Machinery Safety Expert has already certified all products according to EN ISO 13849-1 and EN/IEC 62061 and developed services to support the customer achieving compliance with it. Additionally Pilz will support customers that decide to use EN 954-1 when designing safety systems for machinery with the required products and services.
We will inform you as soon as the duration of the extension period has been published in the official journal. To always be up-to-date about standards, you can also subscribe to our newsletter.
