Wind turbines fall under the scope of the Machinery Directive
The revised version of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC comes into force on 29.12.2009. Even wind turbine manufacturers will be required to deal with the new Machinery Directive because, by definition, a wind turbine is a functional machine, and as such it falls within the scope of the Machinery Directive.
So wind turbines will need to be issued with a declaration of conformity in accordance with Annex IIA and will also be subject to the CE marking process. The CE marks confirms that a machine conforms to the European directives.
Risk analysis important for wind turbines
This procedure is based on a competently executed, systematic risk analysis, which enables potential hazards to be detected and appropriate safeguards to be put in place as a response. The result of the risk analysis is then incorporated into the development of an appropriate safety concept.
Whether it's an existing plant or a new development, Pilz can offer wind turbine manufacturers comprehensive support in performing the risk analysis:
- Identification of applicable standards, regulations and best industry practices
- Determination of the machine's limits
- Examination of all the hazards throughout the entire lifecycle of the wind turbine
- Risk analysis and assessment
- Recommended approach for reducing risk, based on the current standards
